The petitioners are the President and Secretary of Vaikom Coir

¶23

Mats and Matting's Co-operative Society, Vaikom. They are in occupation of the Government land. The petitioners approached this Court challenging Exts.P1 and P2 revenue recovery notices issued by the District Collector, Kottayam claiming lease rent. The demand is for Rs.68,61,854/-. The petitioners' case is that they cannot pay such a huge lease rent. Further, the petitioners question the very fixation of the lease rent itself in the aforesaid manner.

In an earlier occasion, when similar demand was made, the Government, by order dated 03.03.2010 written off such a demand. The petitioners again approached the Government by Ext.P5 to write off the demand. Ext.P5 is addressed to the Minister for Coir. It is appropriate the petitioners address the representation to the Secretary to the Coir Department. Such a representation shall be filed within a period of two weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this judgment. The Government shall consider the request of the petitioners within a further

period of two months, after notice to the petitioners. Till then, the

interim order already passed by this Court on 06.02.2020 will continue.
