Present public interest petition has been filed seeking issuance of directions to the respondents to widen the Sonia Vihar Pushta Road (running from Nanak Sar/Wazirabad bridge to Chauhan Patti/Sabhapur) on the Yamuna River side to at least three times its present width in a time bound manner.

The petitioner who appears in person states that the narrow eight kilometer stretch of the Sonia Vihar Pushta Road often sees severe traffic

congestion. He states that commercial trucks, non-operational DTC buses, school buses, auto-rickshaws, vans, phat-phat seva vehicles and e-rickshaws block the road on every exit of the Sonia Vihar Pushta Road. He further states that the entire traffic on the Saharanpur NH 709-B is diverted to the Sonia Vihar Pushta Road due to the construction of the elevated road from Eastern Peripheral Expressway to Akshardham Temple in East Delhi, leading to additional traffic congestion.

He states that though the Sonia Vihar Pushta Road was constructed more than thirty (30) years ago, yet the respondents have not undertaken any steps to widen the said road despite the manifold growth of population. 4. He states that the petitioner has not received any response to his representation dated 10^th June, 2024 addressed to the respondents regarding widening of the Sonia Vihar Pushta Road.

Keeping in view the aforesaid, this Court disposes of the present writ petition with a direction to respondent no.1 to decide the petitioner’s representation dated 10^th June, 2024 in accordance with law as expeditiously as possible after taking input from all the relevant departments/authorities. This Court clarifies that it has not commented on the merits of the controversy. The rights and contentions of all the parties are left open.
