The petitioners are legal adults. They have married each-other out of their free volition. However, their marriage does meet with the approval of the relatives of petitioner no. 1. They apprehend threat to their life, limb and liberty at the hands of respondents no. 3 to 6. They have been granted interim protection. The learned counsel for respondent no. 3 submits that R-3-the father of P-1 would be more concerned about the safety and security of his daughter, so would be her other family members i.e. respondents no. 4 to 6. Therefore, there could be never be any threat to her from them.

Mr. Avi Singh, the learned counsel for the State submits that respondent nos. 3 and 4 have been interacted with by the police and they have been sensitized about the petitioners’ constitutional rights to make their own choice for a life partner and the parents cannot interfere in the exercise of such right. He states that the respondents have also been sensitized to maintain peace. The father says that he would indeed be happy to meet the young couple within the Court premises and in due course, shall happily

hold a reception to felicitate the young couple on their marriage. Nevertheless the SHO, of the area in which the petitioners reside now (or later), shall accord them due protection. To begin with, they shall be provided with telephone numbers of three police officers from that jurisdiction, of which one shall be of a lady police officer. These numbers shall be kept operational at all times so that any exigency could be intimated on either of the numbers, by the petitioners. The learned counsel for the State further states that any message received on the said numbers or on any other telephone number of the police either by way of a telephone call or SMS shall be immediately responded to. Additionally, the Beat Constable/Division Staff of the area shall regularly visit the residence of the petitioners on a daily basis and report the same in the Roznamcha. The safety and security of the petitioners shall be assessed by the SHO on a weekly basis with due endorsement of the same in the Roznamcha for a month. The Beat Constable shall record entries in his Beat Book. The petitioners shall furnish their address in Delhi to the SHO concerned.

No further orders are required at this stage.

The petition stands disposed-off accordingly.
