When the matters were taken up for hearing, none appeared for the petitioners nor any representation was made on their behalf.

Since the issue involved in these writ petitions being the same, these writ petitions are heard and disposed of by a common order after hearing the learned counsel for the respondents.

In these writ petitions, the petitioners seek directions to the respondents to provide legal aid and necessary assistance to the migrant labourers, who are languishing in foreign jails to defend their cases.

According to the petitioners, some migrant labourers from Karimnagar District are languishing in the jails of U.A.E., Sultanate of Oman and Dubai for their alleged involvement in various offences. Petitioners state that according to the Consular Manual, when Indian nationals are involved in criminal cases abroad and need legal assistance, the Consulate Officials are required to provide necessary assistance to them. Petitioners also made several representations to all the dignitaries of the country requesting them to provide legal aid and

necessary assistance to such labourers, but in vein. Hence, they filed these writ petitions.

Under the circumstances, we direct the Union of India to treat the writ petitions filed by the petitioners as the representations filed by the petitioners and to consider the same and to pass necessary orders thereon in accordance with law.

The writ petitions are accordingly disposed of. No costs.
