The petitioner is resident of village Nanansu, Tehsil and District Patiala. He alleges that Gram Panchayat of his village is owner in possession of 333 kanals of cultivable land which is required to be auctioned in a transparent manner to generate income for the Gram Panchayat. It is further averred that as and when the auction would take place, several landless persons of the village will participate in the auction but due to inaction of the Gram Panchayat, all of them are being deprived of their source of livelihood. It is in this backdrop a direction is sought against the Gram Panchayat for auctioning of the subject land. The petitioner has also made a complaint to the District Development and Panchayat Officer, Patiala but finding no response, he has filed this writ petition.

Having heard learned counsel for the petitioner and considering the nature of relief sought by him, we dispose

of this writ petition with a direction to the District Development and Panchayat Officer, Patiala as well as Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Block Sanour, Tehsil and District Patiala, respondent Nos.2 & 3 respectively, to verify the assertion made by the petitioner and take remedial action in accordance with law, as early as possible and preferably within a period of two weeks from the date of receiving a certified copy of this order.
