The total storage capacity of the said pond is 3.65 Million Cubic Metres (MCM), with its catchment area spread over approximately 12.72 square kilometres and that the said pond is a vital source of water for both drinking and irrigation purposes for Nagda city and the adjoining areas. Out of the total storage capacity, approximately 1.70 MCM is earmarked and reserved for drinking water supply, while the remaining 1.95 MCM is allocated for irrigation purposes. It is further submitted that, the recharge of the Banbana Talab is entirely dependent upon the rainfall received within its respective micro-watersheds. The work of rejuvenation of Banbana Talab at Nagda is presently being undertaken under the AMRUT 2.0 Scheme, and for the said purpose, the tender for execution of the requisite civil works has already been issued by the competent authority. It is submitted that, as per the terms and scope of the tender document, comprehensive lake rejuvenation works are proposed, inter alia, including desilting of the water body, treatment and development of the catchment area, afforestation measures for enhancement of water-holding capacity and groundwater recharge, installation of railing along the bund, and construction of an ecofriendly pathway, along with other allied and incidental works. It is further submitted that the total estimated cost of the said rejuvenation project is approximately ₹1.06 Crore, and the stipulated time for completion of the project is one year from the date of commencement of the work and the complaints lodged by the Applicant on the Chief Minister’s Helpline Portal, the District Authorities carried out a site inspection on 20.06.2024, during which no mining activity was found to be in operation at the site in question.
