Madras High Court (N. Sathish Kumar, J.), order dated 10-09-2025 in WP Crl. No. 288 of 2025: Twenty-five depositors filed a writ petition under Article 226 seeking a writ of mandamus directing the Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai (3rd respondent) to register an FIR on their complaint dated 13/01/2025 and investigate a fraudulent deposit scheme, alleging they had invested monies with respondents 5 to 7 (Ultra Metal Impex Private Limited / Unique Exports) on promises of fanciful returns which were not repaid. The learned Addl. Public Prosecutor submitted that on complaints of other depositors against the same accused persons, an FIR in Crime No.214 of 2024 had already been registered for offences under sections 120B and 420 IPC and Section 5 of the Tamilnadu Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishment) Act 1997. Holding that where an FIR has already been registered on depositors' complaints in a fraudulent deposit scheme, the police cannot register separate FIRs for each and every complaint, the Court directed that the petitioners be examined and their statements recorded under section 180 BNSS, and disposed of the writ petition with no costs.

This Writ Petition has been filed by the petitioner seeking for issuance of
