Heard Mr. N Borah, learned counsel for the petitioner, Ms. DS Neog, learned counsel for the respondents No. 1, 2 and 3 being the authorities in the Irrigation Department of the Government of Assam and Mr. D Borah, learned Junior Government Advocate for the respondents No. 4, 5 and 6 being the authorities in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup(M).

The father of the petitioner Surjya Kanta Kalita who was serving as a Khalasi in the Irrigation Department of the erstwhile Guwahati Division, died in harness on 26.01.2017 and on his death, the petitioner submitted an application for compassionate appointment on 30.11.2017. The only grievance raised in this writ petition is that the said application of the petitioner has not been given a consideration by the respondent authorities.

Considering the limited grievance raised, we direct the Executive Engineer, Guwahati Division of Irrigation to do the needful to place the application of the petitioner for compassionate appointment before the next available DLC of Kamrup(M) district. Upon the same being placed, the DLC would pass a reasoned order on the same. If the application of the petitioner was earlier

placed before the DLC, then there would be no further requirement to place it again, but the result thereof be duly informed to the petitioner.

The writ petition is disposed of in the above terms.
