1. The petitioner, a candidate belonging to the Other Backward Classes¹ , applied for recruitment to the post of Constable (GD) in the Central Armed Police Forces² , Secretariat Security Force³ and Rifleman (GD) in the Assam Rifles. Selection took place in 2024.

2. The first phase of the examination, which was computer based, was held on 22 February 2024, in which the petitioner scored

3. The second phase of the examination was conducted between 16 October 2024 and 7 November 2024. In this phase of the examination, the petitioner was declared unfit on the ground that his chest measurement was not meeting the requisite standards.

4. It appears that the requisite chest measurement was 80 centimeters unexpanded and 85 centimeters expanded. Whereas the petitioner met the requirement of unexpanded chest measurement, it appears that the expanded chest measurement was less than the requisite standard.

5. The petitioner, therefore, moved to this Court by way of WP (C) 15223/2024, which was disposed of by a Coordinate Bench of this Court by order dated 7 November 2024, directing the respondents to re-measure the chest of the petitioner.

6. Pursuant thereto, the petitioner underwent the remaining stages of the selection process between 9 November 2024 and 4 December 2024. The final result of the selection was declared on 13 December 2024. Though the petitioner has scored more than the requisite cut-off marks and more than the marks of the last selected OBC candidates, to which category the petitioner also belongs, his name did not figure in the final list.

7. The petitioner, therefore, has re-approached this Court by means of the present writ petition, seeking a direction to the respondents to include the petitioner in the list of selected candidates and appoint him as Constable (GD) in the CRPF.

8. Notice was issued in the present writ petition on 21 February 2025.

9. On 4 March 2025, the respondents produced, before this Court, a communication dated 27 February 2025 by the Directorate General, CRPF to the Director, Staff Selection Commission⁴ , confirming that the petitioner had been declared fit for recruitment to the post of Constable (GD) and requesting the SSC to issue the revised result of the petitioner.

10. It now appears that the SSC has issued the revised result, declaring the petitioner to have succeeded in the selection process for the post of Constable (GD).

11. Consequent thereon, the petitioner has also been issued an offer letter dated 28 March 2025, for the post of Constable (GD), CRPF.

12. As such, the main grievance of the petitioner in this writ petition stands assuaged.

13. Needless to say, the petitioner would be entitled to be appointed as Constable (GD) along with others who have participated in the selection with the petitioner as per their order of merit.

14. We make it clear that the delay in declaring the petitioner’s result should not prejudice him in any manner, especially in respect of seniority vis-a-vis his batchmates.

15. The writ petition, accordingly, stands disposed of.
