Panchayat Raj (Settlement of Election Disputes) Rules, 1994 requires election petitions to be tried by the Sub Divisional Officer as nearly as may be in accordance with the procedure applicable under the Code of Civil Procedure 1908, and there is no bar against amendment; proposed amendments cannot be rejected merely on the ground that amendment is barred in an election petition.
