Heard learned counsel for the petitioner and learned Standing Counsel for the State-respondents.

The sole prayer made in the instant writ petition is for a direction to respondent nos.2 and 3 to decide the representation of the petitioner dated 25.11.2021 wherein the petitioner has prayed for a decision being taken on his application for grant of character certificate.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner has filed online application for grant of character certificate (Annexure no.3 to the instant writ petition).

It seems that on account of a criminal case registered against the petitioner under Sections 147, 148, 149, 307 and 506 IPC, the Superintendent of Police has made adverse recommendation.

However, the matter is still pending before respondent no.2 and no final decision has been taken so far.

Learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that on the basis of said criminal case wherein the petitioner is charged of petty offences, which are all bailable, character certificate cannot be declined to him.

Learned Standing Counsel states that the application of the

petitioner shall be decided by respondent no.2 within such time as may be directed by this Court.

Accordingly, without expressing any opinion on merits of the case, the writ petition is disposed of with direction to respondent no.2 to pass a speaking order on the application of the petitioner for grant of character certificate expeditiously, preferably, within a period of eight weeks from the date of communication of the instant order alongwith photocopy of the representation dated 25.11.2021.
