The petitioner’s main grievance when this Public Interest Litigation was filed was that respondent No.5-agency was entrusted with the task of sterilization of street dogs in the city of Jaipur was found to be carrying out such work causing physical harm to the canines.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that during pendency of the petition, the contract in favour of respondent No.5 has been cancelled. The main grievance of the petitioner thus stands resolved.
Under an interim order dated 28.01.2020, a Division Bench of this Court while issuing notice had observed that respondent No.2 should appoint an agency to carry out the responsibility under the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001 and to ensure that all the rules and safeguards are complied with.
Needless to say, any agency which is entrusted with this task has to adhere to the rules and regulations of safety and treating the animals and carrying the work without causing cruelty even in any case are required to be followed.
In view of these developments and observations, this petition is disposed of.
