Contempt petition (COCP-1156-2021 O&M, decided 01.09.2025 before Nidhi Gupta J., Punjab & Haryana High Court) praying for initiation of contempt proceedings against the respondents, including the Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University Patiala, for non-compliance of the interim order dated 26.8.2020 passed by a co-ordinate Bench in CWP-12789-2020 (Jaspal Singh and others vs. Punjabi University Patiala and others), wherein notice of motion was issued and interim directions in terms of the order dated 30.5.2019 in CWP No.15195-2019 (Sharmila Yadav and others vs. Maharshi Dayanand University and another) were issued, directing respondent No.3 not to relieve the petitioners till regular selection is made or their work and conduct is found satisfactory, and, if relieved, to take them back in service and pay salary for summer vacation, in view of the judgment in CWP-9300-2015 (Mrs. Menka and others V/s. State of Haryana and others). Learned counsel for the respondents submitted that the directions stood complied with, and Mr. Sajjan Singh, Advocate for the petitioners, telephonically intimated that the petition would be withdrawn; however, none appeared for the petitioners, and the order sheets showed no representation on 24.3.2023, 24.4.2023 and 03.8.2023. The Court disposed of the contempt petition as having been rendered infructuous, discharged the rule, and ordered pending applications, if any, to stand disposed of.
