The petitioner was enrolled in the Army as Sepoy on 30.11.1979 and was discharged on 29.2.1996. After serving for 16 years and 3 months he was boarded out on medical grounds being in low medical category on account of injuries suffered by him in a mine blast while in operation in Sri Lanka. Disability Certificate dated 7.9.1998 is on the record. The petitioner earlier filed a statutory appeal for grant of war injury pension and filed this petition seeking a direction for payment of the war injury pension.
Ms. Ranjana Shahi, Advocate appearing on behalf of the respondents has placed on record copy of communication dated 2.6.2005 from the records of Sikh Regiment addressed to the Manager, Punjab National Bank, Hall Bazar Amritsar, Distt. Amritsar which indicates that the war injury pension has been sanctioned in favour of the petitioner @ Rs. 3680/- per month w.e.f. 1.3.1996 for life and a PPO has also been issued for arrears. Copy of the aforesaid PPO is taken on record.

In this view of the matter, nothing survives in this petition. It is, however directed that if the payment has not been released, the same may be released within a period of two months.
