The petitioner filed this writ petition for issuance of a https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/ writ and more particularly in the nature of a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to include the life history of

Thiru.Pasumpon Muthuramanlinga Thevar in the Tamil subject for 6th standard as existing earlier, by considering his representation dated 18.07.2018.
2.It is the case of the petitioner, who filed this writ petition in pro bono publico that the life history of Thiru.Pasumpon Muthuramanlinga Thevar was included in the syllabus prescribed for 6th standard students all over the State right from the academic year 1978-1979. However, without any rhyme or reason, it was removed from the syllabus with effect from the academic year 2018-2019. The petitioner, therefore seeks a direction to restore the syllabus including the life history of Thiru.Pasumpon Muthuramanlinga Thevar so as to benefit the students with a glimpse of his life history.
3.The Chief Educational Officer, Madurai, filed a counter affidavit in answer to the contentions taken in the affidavit filed in support of the writ petition. According to the Chief Educational Officer, the Government of Tamil Nadu constituted a committee to evolve the Curriculum and syllabus which will be higher in standard than the syllabi of Central Board of Secondary Education and Boards of Education of other States under the Chairmanship of Professor M.Anandakrishnan, former Chairman of Board of Indian Technology, Kanpur and former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, Chennai. The Committee recommended a new syllabus and the same was implemented with effect from the academic year 2018-2019.
4.The Chief Educational Officer explained the steps taken to include the life history of Thiru.Pasumpon Muthuramanlinga Thevar in the textbook to be published for the academic year 2019-2020. Paragraphs 9 and 10 of the counter affidavit would make the position clear.
“9.It is submitted that in the common syllabus, there was a prose lesson about Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar under the title “The great man who preserved patriotism “in Term II standard VI Tamil textbook. In the current academic year, VI standard textbook has contents encompassing language, nature, culture, science, technology, education, nation, society, Government, administration, civilization, occupations, trade, arts, aesthetics, innovations, ethics, philosophy, humaneness, personality development.
10.It is submitted that in the ensuing standard VII Tamil textbook, biography of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar highlighting his services to the society, versatility of knowledge, patriotism, political life, virtues and thoughts have been included in a very interesting manner, which will be implemented from the academic year 2019-2020.”
5.The Government has now made it clear that with effect from https://hcservices.ecourts.gov.in/hcservices/ ensuing academic year 2019-2010, the biography of Thiru.Pasumpon Muthuramanlinga Thevar, highlighting his services to the society,

versatility of knowledge, patriotism, political life, virtues and thoughts, would be included in the syllabus for standard VII.
6.In view of the decision now taken by the Government as indicated above, no further orders are necessary in the writ petition.
7.The writ petition is disposed of with the above observation. No costs.
