J U D G M E N T

The grievance of the petitioner in the writ petition concerns the mistakes in the certificates issued to his son by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as regards his name and the name of his wife. It is stated that the name of the petitioner is Suresh M.R. and his name was mistakenly shown in the certificates as Suresh Kumar M.R. Likewise, it is also stated that the name of his wife is Sujatha M.K. and the same was mistakenly shown in the certificates as Sujatha N.K. It was alleged that though the request made by the petitioner for correction has been forwarded by the School to the CBSE with their recommendation, the same is not acted upon. The petitioner, therefore seeks appropriate directions in this regard in the writ petition.

2 . A statement has been filed by the CBSE stating,

among others, that corrections can be made only to make the certificates in tune with the school records. It was pointed out

that the school records of the petitioner's son are not corrected and that the petitioner, therefore, is not entitled to the corrections sought.

3. In the light of the stand taken by the CBSE, the writ petition is disposed of as follows :-

(i ) The petitione r shall make a fresh application before the school authorities for correction of the records of the CBSE with supporting documents, and the school authorities shall carry out appropriate corrections in the school records, if the documents produced in support of the correction sought are found to be genuine and acceptable, and forward the application along with the corrected school records and other records insisted by the CBSE in terms of Bye-law 69.1(ii) of the Bye-laws of the CBSE, within two weeks from the date of receipt of the

(ii) The CBSE shall, on receipt of the application from the school, together with copies of the corrected school records, carry out the desired correction within two months thereafter.
