The Petitioner, who has been serving with Respondent No.1, Jawaharlal Nehru University, since 1994 and is presently working as a Senior Assistant in the Administrative Branch, seeks inclusion of his family members in the service records so as to enable them to avail medical and other consequential service benefits in accordance with applicable rules.

The record indicates that the Petitioner’s request has not been processed, apparently in view of complexities arising from his marital history. In this regard, the competent authority, vide notice dated 21^st February, 2025, constituted a Committee to examine his documents and claims, and called upon him to appear and explain the circumstances relating to his three marriages, as well as a live-in relationship with Ms. Anwari Begum, with whom he now claims to have solemnised marriage. Counsel for the Petitioner submits that the Petitioner has duly appeared before the Committee and furnished all relevant documents; however, no final decision has been taken till date.

In these circumstances, and considering that the counsel for the Petitioner, at this stage, confines the relief to an expeditious administrative consideration of his request, the petition is disposed of with a direction to the Respondents to take a final decision on the Petitioner’s case, pursuant to the proceedings initiated by the Committee constituted vide notice dated 21^st February, 2025.

It is clarified that none of the other claims raised in the petition are pressed or examined at this stage. In the event the decision is adverse to the Petitioner, he shall be at liberty to avail appropriate remedies in accordance with law.

Having regard to the nature and complexity of the issues involved, the competent authority shall pass a reasoned and speaking order, dealing with the Petitioner’s documents and contentions in a comprehensive manner, so as to facilitate effective judicial review, if occasion so arises.

With the above directions, the present petition is disposed of along with pending application(s).
