hypothetical and unviable for the reasons that the route suggested by the petitioner passes through the hilly region of Malshej ghat as mentioned by them in their petition. The Malshej ghat has many mountainous peaks as high as altitude 1230m and it will be necessary to construct a number of tunnels, the longest tunnel will be length of about 12 kms. The Malshej ghat is prone to landslide and bouler falling. Stability and safety of Railway line through tunnel in such area will always be questionable. Apart from this, the alignment proposed by the petitioners also passes through deep ravines and through atleast 3 dams viz Pimpalagaonjoga, Chas Kaman & Bhama. Generally as a rule, tanks/dams are avoided on up streams of any new line as they become Railway affecting tanks/works and poses perpetual threat to a railway line. Therefore, the Petitioner's suggestion to take an alignment through dams itself is an absurd proposition. Thus, the route in consideration as suggested by petitioner is not technically feasible as it passes through mountainous and treacherous terrain. The longitudinal section of straight alignment as suggested by the Petitioner from Begdewadi to Sinnar would, if necessary, be demonstrated by illustration by the Map of the terrain, to show how the same is technically unviable.”
