Batch of eighteen writ petitions (W.P.No.2722 of 2017 and seventeen connected matters, all of 2017) filed under Article 226 of the Constitution by fifty-four residents/agriculturists of Venkatapuram and Gandigunta villages, Vuyyuru Mandal, Krishna District, challenging the action of the Union of India, NHAI and revenue authorities in dispossessing them and demolishing their dwelling houses without payment of compensation pursuant to a Notification dated 19/06/2012 issued under Sec.3-G of The National Highways Authorities Act, 1956, alleging violation of Articles 14, 21 and 300-A. An interim application (IA No.1 of 2017) sought restraint on demolition pending disposal. At hearing, Sri S. S. Varma, learned Standing Counsel for NHAI, submitted that the subject lands had been acquired, compensation deposited, and NHAI had laid the roads, rendering the petitions infructuous.
