The petitioner has prayed for a writ of mandamus directing respondent no.2 to provide security to him as it is alleged that respondent no.3 is adamant to kill the petitioner.

Learned Standing Counsel points out that under Government Orders dated 9.5.2014 and 01.01.2016, the petitioner can file an application before District Magistrate / Senior Superintendent of Police which will be put up before the District Level Committee empowered to deal with such matters. The said committee will assess the threat and take decision as to what security is to be provided. He further submitted that in case any such application is filed it will be decided by the said committee expeditiously.

Accordingly, without expressing any opinion on merits, the writ petition is disposed of with liberty to the petitioner to file fresh application along with true attested copy of the instant order before appropriate authority in terms of the above Government orders. In the event, such an application is filed, the same shall be considered by the District Level Committee in accordance with law, expeditiously preferably within six weeks from the date of filing of the application.

The writ petition stands disposed of accordingly.
