O R D E R:

Petitioner has prayed that the respondent be directed to correct his place of birth as Secunderabad in the place of Hyderabad. The aforementioned correction is sought on the basis of Birth Certificate.

The petitioner is an Indian Passport Holder bearing No.E3290902. His place of Birth has been recorded as Hyderabad in

his passport. The petitioner approached the authorities along with his birth certificate, according to which his place of birth is Secunderabad and not Hyderabad.

The learned counsel for the petitioner states that although the petitioner requested the respondent to correct his place of birth as Secunderabad in the place of Hyderabad, but his application has not been considered.

The learned counsel for the respondent opposed the contention of the petitioner, contending that the place of birth once entered cannot be changed.

A perusal of the birth certificate of the petitioner shows that the petitioner was born at Secunderabad and not at Hyderabad, and it seems that there was an obvious mistake in issuance of the passport, which reflects the place of birth of the petitioner as Hyderabad instead of Secunderabad.

After hearing the learned counsel for the parties, this Writ Petition is disposed of, with a direction to the respondent that the application of the petitioner for correction of his place of birth as Secunderabad in the place of Hyderabad shall be entertained by the respondent and necessary corrections shall be made in the Passport of the petitioner, if justified, in accordance with law. The needful be done within a period of eight (8) weeks from the date of receipt of a certified copy of this order. No order as to costs.
