Whatever quality stocked/available in thevarious godowns of the Forest Department of Andhra Pradesh is the salvaged material pertaining to illicit removals by the smugglers which have been seized by the Forest Department and necessary offence cases have been booked. The Forest Department of Andhra Pradesh make an open auction of such seized material of Red Sanders Wood. The export of wood and wood products in the form of logs, timber stumps etc., is prohibited for all forestry species, which have been reflected in the Exim Policy 2004-2009 (HS (code) 44011000, 44012100 and 44013000 at Sl.No. 143 under Chapter-44) Further more the matter of export of Red Sanders Wood in the log form was referred to the Ministry of Environment and Forests earlier also and this Ministry’s stand is still that value added items like musical instruments, Red Sanders extracts etc., with a minimum valued addition of 300% may be made out of the accumulated stock of Red Sanders Wood before it is exported so that it could fetch the country much more foreign exchange than would have been possible through export in the form of logs and will also create better labour employment opportunity locally. This provision of export of value added items of Red Sanders Wood is obviously applicable to only seized Red Sanders Wood by the Forest Department of Andhra Pradesh duly auctioned to private entrepreneurs.”
