This writ petition is filed for a writ of certiorari to quash the proceedings No.B/396/2007 dated 10-09-2007 issued by respondent No.1, whereby the land in occupation of the petitioner was resumed under the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act, 1977.

At the hearing, Sri D.Srinivas, learned counsel for the petitioners admitted that an appeal lies against the order impugned in this writ petition. He, however, says that the petitioners apprehend that even before availing the remedy of appeal, they may be dispossessed.

I am of the considered view that since the petitioners have an effective alternative remedy by way of an appeal, this writ petition cannot be entertained.

In view of the same, the writ petition is dismissed with liberty to the petitioners to avail the alternative remedy of filing appeal before the appropriate Authority. However, having regard to the apprehension expressed by the petitioners that they may be dispossessed before availing the appeal and seeking appropriate orders from the competent authority, I deem it appropriate to direct status quo obtained as on today shall be maintained for a period of two weeks. No costs.
