In this writ petition, the petitioner seeks directions by way of mandamus to the respondents to treat the petitioner on par with sports personnel like Koneru Hampi and Hari Prasad on the ground that he has achieved extraordinary performance in the field of mathematics and to provide him similar incentives that were extended to the sports personnel.

In the affidavit filed in support of the writ petition, it is stated that the petitioner is a mathematical wizard and achieved several recognitions and his performances were recognized and entered in the Guinness Book of World Records. He claims to have given performance of calculations in a record time without the use of calculator and calculated the square of six-digit number in 1 minute and 3.8 seconds. As such, it is his case that as the personnel, who excelled in other fields like sports, were given certain incentives of cash prize apart from other incentives of house sites etc., it is obligatory on the part of the respondents to extend the said benefits to the petitioner also.

Though the petitioner claims that he has given some extraordinary performances in giving mathematical results in a record time without use of calculator, but, at the same time, it cannot be treated as a sport to seek comparison with sports personnel. Even in the fields of this nature also, Government can recognize the talent and may extend the benefits. But, it is not for this court to grant any direction as prayed for to treat the claim of the petitioner on par with personnel who excelled in other fields like sports. The

same has to be assessed on its own merit with respect to such field alone and not in comparison to the persons in other fields. As such, the petitioner, as a matter of right, cannot seek any incentives on par with sports personnel.

I do not find any valid ground for grant of relief prayed for in this writ petition and the writ petition, which is devoid of any merits, is dismissed. No costs.
