Petitioner competed for appointment as a Constable in the District Police Cadre as well as in Punjab Armed Police Cadre in the General Category pursuant to advertisement dated 31.5.2016 issued by the Punjab Police. The selection process envisaged determination of merit based on educational qualifications and marks allocated for physical measurements in height. Since the petitioner was not selected he alongwith others filed CWP 5601/2017 challenging the selection.
Upon notice, on the stand of the State that height of the petitioner-Gurwinder Singh was remeasured and was found to be 177 centimeters and therefore, entitled to one additional mark, the said writ petition was disposed of with the observation that his case for appointment will be considered as per criteria, if otherwise suitable.
Present contempt has been filed with the allegations that the Rajinder Parshad Joshiorder dated 20.12.2017 disposing of the claim of the petitioner in CWP 2018.03.14 11:29 I attest to the accuracy and integrity of this document

Ms.Lavanya Paul, on instructions from Hari Singh, Superintendent submits that even after grant of additional mark in lieu of height being 177 centimeters, the petitioner did not fall within the zone of appointment against the advertised vacancies in the general category for both District Police Cadre and Punjab Armed Police cadre.
In view of the aforesaid stand counsel for the petitioner prays for permission to withdraw the instant contempt so as to seek his remedy in accordance with law after obtaining information under the Right to Information Act.
Dismissed as withdrawn with the liberty aforesaid.
