present status report regarding the investigation into the unnatural death of Smt. Gitanjali Dalai.
Case Details:
An Unnatural Death (U.D.) case was registered at GRP Post, Balasore, vide Balasore GRPS U.D. Case No. 21 dated 17.03.2026, concerning the death of Smt. Gitanjali Dalai, whose body was found in a mutilated condition (cut into pieces) between Sabira and Markona Railway Stations.
Date & Place of Occurrence:
The incident is reported to have occurred on or about 17.03.2026, within the jurisdiction of GRP Balasore, on the railway track between Sabira and Markona stations.
Initial Findings:
Upon receipt of information, police personnel reached the spot. It was found that the Balasore GRPS conducted inquest proceedings and sent the body to CHC Soro for post-mortem examination. The scene of occurrence was examined, and relevant evidence was collected.
Allegation of the Petitioner:
The petitioner alleges that his niece, Gitanjali Dalai, was tortured and killed on 16.08.2026 by her father-in-law, brother-in-law, and husband, Chittaranjan Dalai, and that the body was subsequently thrown onto the railway tracks at Sabira-Markona Railway section.
Investigation Conducted So Far:
Investigation disclosed that, in the year 2006, one Gitanjali Das, daughter of Purnachandra Das, was married to one Chittaranjan Dalai, the eldest son of Shiba Dalai of Bala Sabira village, according to Vedic customs. After the marriage, her conjugal life was

happy and she gave birth to one son and one daughter. Now her marriage has continued for about 20 years. Her son, namely Rahul Kumar Dalai (17), is studying in +2, and her daughter, namely Khusburani Dalai (9), is studying in Class 6.
During the examination of deceased inlaws of the village, Bela Sabira, in the presence of witnesses namely Gitarani Das (50), wife of Rajendra Prasad Das of Sunari Sabira (Sarapanch Sabira GP), Sasmita Barik (40), wife of Trilochana Barik of Sunari Sabira (Naya Sarapanch / Samiti Member of Sabira GP), Subhasini Behera, wife of Parsuram Sahu of Brahman Sabira (Ex-ward member of Sabira GP), Pratulla Kumar Rauta, son of Lt. Rama Chandra Rauta of Talangagar (Ex-Sarapanch of Sabira GP), all are residents of PS-Soro, DistrictBalasore, they stated that the family members of Shiba Dalai were praying for one Hanuman coin. The said coin was reported missing and they suspected Gitanjali Das Dalai. In this matter, the victim became depressed and they also stated that she died by suicide at the railway tracks at Sabira-Markona Railway. The allegation made by the petitioner against the husband and in laws members of the victim is false and baseless. As per the PM report, it is ascertained that the MO Dr. Satyajit Jadav, CHC Soro, opined that the death occurred due to loss of vital organs like the brain as a result of severe blunt trauma to the head.”

FIR has been submitted before any police station. Learned counsel for the Petitioner himself submits that there is no GRP Police Station in Soro. It is therefore apparent that the FIR / complaint has not been submitted before any police station.
