The news reporting Danik Bhaskar newspaper dated 12.03.2026 highlighted the crises of the Machna River in the District Betul. It is reported that lifeline the Machna River, Betul's lifeline is currently facing a serious crisis due to the spread of water hyacinth. From Karbala Ghat to Machna Bridge, the river's surface is completely covered with aquatic weeds, and in many places the water is no longer visible. This poses a threat not only to aquatic life but also to the general public, as mosquitoes that spread diseases such as dengue and malaria are breeding in the area. Last year, approximately 7 lakh were spent on cleaning the river using JCBs and Poclain machines, but within a year the problem has worsened again. Experts say that

Similar matter was raised in O.A. No. 15/2026(CZ) titled as Public Power and Awareness Society, Bhilwara vs. State of Rajasthan with regard to the removal of aquatic weeds and a committee was constituted with the representative of the Water Resources Department, Bhilwara (Rajasthan) District Collector of Bhilwara, Rajasthan and the Member Secretary, Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board and vide report dated 15.04.2026 the opinion submitted by the committee was with the facts looking to gravity of the situation UIT has started expert consultation from ICAR, Director of Weed Research Jabalpur. Evaluation of the species confirmed that the no proven biological control agents were currently available in India for effective suppression of Pistia under open lake condition. Chemical control was considered unsuitable due to the potential risk of secondary pollution and ecological imbalance accordingly mechanical removal of aquatic weeds along with periodical maintenance is the ultimate solution and the further action have been taken in accordance with the above report.

Accordingly, the manually cleaning and removal of the waste in silt or other technical method may be adopted by the concerned department. Accordingly, the copy of the application and copy of the order be sent to the Water Resources Department, Betul (M.P.), Collector, Betul/Chief Executive Officer, Betul for taking necessary actions and taking remedial measures to protect the life of the river. Action taken by the authorities concerned must be submitted to the Registrar,
