1. The Original Application is filed to quash the order made by the District Collector, Tiruppur, in his proceedings Na.Ka. No.816/2024/B1, dated 29.05.2025. The said proceedings of the Collector have stated that the solid waste was dumped in the abandoned rock pits situated in the Government poromboke abandoned land at Kanampalayam Panchayat. In the meanwhile, the waste garbage accumulated rapidly in the area of Tiruppur Corporation is so huge that it has to be scientifically managed in addition to segregation. But, at the request of the Commissioner, Tiruppur Corporation, the remaining waste is sought to be permitted to be dumped in the inactive rock pits situated in Survey Nos.156 & 157/3, Morattupalayam Village, Uthukuli Taluk. The District Collector has directed the Tiruppur Municipal Corporation to dump the non-biodegradable solid waste into the rock pits in the above-referred survey numbers.

2. Despite the fact that it is prohibited to use the quarry pits as dumping sites, it is alleged that the said act is continuing. Besides, it is to be noted that the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board is empowered to authorize any site for the above-referred purpose and the Collector only has the authority to identify a site which should be suitable for waste segregation and scientific management of the same. The dumping of the waste into the quarry pit would only contaminate the groundwater and cause other resultant health hazards.

3. Therefore, the order of the District Collector, Tiruppur dated 29.05.2025 is stayed forthwith and the Commissioner, Tiruppur Municipal Corporation, is directed to stop dumping the garbage into the inactive rock pits in Survey Nos.156 & 157/3 at Morattupalayam Village.
