This original application is registered suo motu on the basis of the news item titled “Locals claim pollution killing fish in Gopanpally lake; officials to inspect” appearing in The Times of India dated 15.04.2025"

The news item relates to suspected water pollution in Gopanpally Lake, Hyderabad, causing mass fish deaths due to alleged sewage and drainage inflow. As per the news article a nearby Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is discharging both treated and possibly untreated wastewater directly into the lake. Additionally, drainage water from surrounding areas, including Nallagandla and Gopanpally, is reportedly contaminating the lake. The news item further states that despite multiple complaints to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), no effective action has been taken

Hence, we implead the following as respondents in the matter:

(1). Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, GHMC Head Office, CC Complex Tank Bund, Lower Tank Bund Rd, Hyderabad– 500063.

(2). Telangana State Pollution Control Board, Through Chief Secretary, A-3, Paryavaran Bhawan, Sanathnagar Industrial Estate, Hyderabad, Telangana – 500018.

(3). Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Through its Member Secretary, Parivesh Bhawan, East Arjun Nagar, Delhi110032.

(4). Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board, Through its Metropolitan Commissioner, Swarna Jyanti Complex, Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, Srinibasa nagar, Ameerpet, Hyderabad, 500038

Issue notice to the above respondents for filing their response/reply by way of affidavit before the Southern Zonal Bench of the Tribunal at least one week before the next date of hearing. If any respondent directly files the reply without routing it through his advocate, then the said respondent will remain virtually present to assist the Tribunal.

Since the matter falls within the jurisdiction of Southern Zonal Bench of the Tribunal, therefore, the OA is transferred to the Southern Zonal Bench, Chennai for appropriate further action. Let the original record of the OA be transferred to Southern Zonal Bench, Chennai.
