The present writ petition has been filed for a direction to respondents to consider petitioner’s representation dated 01.07.2026 submitted under the provisions of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 and the Tamil Nadu Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2000, conduct enquiry as contemplated under law, verify the documents produced by petitioner, correct the birth register relating to registration No.TVT/228/2011/003/0 dated 28.06.2011.

Learned Standing Counsel for respondents would submit that all that which could be corrected in terms of Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 is only errors apparent on the face of the record. This being an error relating to the name, they may not have the jurisdiction.

The above argument only needs to be rejected inasmuch as Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 also confers power to rectify errors, which is erroneous in form or in substance and therefore, it would take within its ambit correction of names as well. Therefore, respondents are

directed to consider petitioner’s representation dated 01.07.2026 on its own merits and pass appropriate orders, keeping in view the procedure laid down in Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 read with Rule 11

of Tamil Nadu Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2000, after issuing notice and affording reasonable opportunity of hearing to petitioner, and any other interested persons, within a period of six (6) weeks from the date of uploading of web copy without waiting for the receipt of certified copy. It is made clear that this Court has not expressed any views with regard to the merits of the case.

4. Accordingly, writ petition stands disposed of. There will be no order as
