The defacto complainant in Crime No.222 of 2023 has filed the present petition seeking a direction to the third respondent to conclude the investigation in the said crime, which was registered on 30.11.2023 for offences under Sections 147, 294(b), 323, 427, and 506(ii) IPC.

According to the learned Government Advocate (criminal side), the statements of seven witnesses have been recorded, and the respondent police have also recovered the damaged properties. It is further submitted that they are awaiting the P.R. number from the concerned Judicial Magistrate and, therefore, seek a further period of four weeks to conclude the investigation.

This Court is unable to understand the manner in which the investigation is stated to be pending for the purpose of obtaining a P.R. number from the concerned Judicial Magistrate. The learned Judicial Magistrate shall verify and ensure that the P.R. number is assigned to

the investigation agency, thereby enabling it to file the final report within a reasonable time. Mere filing of the final report is not sufficient. The learned Judicial Magistrate as well as the Investigating Officer shall ensure that the final report is taken on file without any undue delay.
