of 38 persons. From the enquiry, it was found that the Kunnathur Chatram was formed in the year 1707 for the purpose of serving food to the poor people, who are visiting Madurai. The said Chatram became dilapidated and hence, the same was demolished during the year 2006. Further, during the year 2011, Rani Mangammal Chathiram was also renovated. At that time a Green colour Lingam having the size of 3 inches height along with copper plate and a copy of G.O.No. 1043, dated 05.06.1906 was kept under the custody of the Corporation. The Green colour Lingam which is now available in the custody of Corporation is the one which was available in the Chatram. The Gemologist had inspected the Lingam on 21.09.2013 in the presence of the Committee and stated that the same is only an Aventurine Quartz approximately having the value of Rs.6,000/- only. The Archeology Department after inspecting the inscriptions made in the copper plate stated that there is no mentioning about the presence of Maragathalingam as alleged by the petitioner. Now the said 3 inches aventurine quartz Lingam is under the custody of Corporation.
