The petitioner submitted application before the Tahsildar, Arakkonam Taluk requesting to issue a Community Certificate indicating his community status. Since follow up action was not taken by the Tahsildar notwithstanding the submission of application on 17 March 2017, the petitioner is before this Court.

Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Government Advocate on behalf of the respondents.

The third respondent is directed to consider and dispose of the application dated 17 March 2017 on merits and as per law. Such exercise shall be completed within a period of four months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. We also make it clear that the direction to consider the application shall not be construed to be an expression of opinion on the merits of the matter. In short, it is for the Tahsildar to decide the matter on the basis of available materials and in accordance with law.

The writ petition is disposed of with the above direction. No costs.
