This writ petition has been filed by way of Public Interest Litigation seeking a direction to the respondents to consider the representation dated 01.06.2012 for the change of name of "Kuppam" to "Anandan Nagar".

The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that it has been decided to change the name of the village from "Kuppam" to "Anandan Nagar" and a representation was also given on 01.06.2012 to the Honourable Chief Minister's Cell marking a copy to the third respondent. The local body has also got no objection for such an action. Therefore, the respondents will have to be directed to make necessary change in the name of the petitioner's village from "Kuppam" to "Anandan Nagar".

A perusal of the counter affidavit filed by the fourth respondent would show that the request made by the petitioner was already rejected on 28.06.2012. Further, as per the Government Order passed in G.O.Ms.No.573 dated 14.12.2001, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, no resolution can be sent for change of the name. The Government has also rejected such a resolution passed by some other Municipalities.

The petitioner does not have a legal right to enforce before this Court. Further more, the petitioner's request has already been denied. Therefore, we do not find any merit in this writ petition. Accordingly, the same is dismissed. No costs.
