An Act to amend the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1979. WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1979, ae o for the purposes and in the manner hereinafter appearing; 2 It is hereby enacted in the Seventy-first Year of the Republic of India, by the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows:— Short title and 1, (1) This Act may be called the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Tax (Amendment) CODINEAREEEAL = AGE 2070, (2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. 2: * THE KOLKATA GAZETTE, EXTRAORDINARY, AUGUST 18, 2021 [Parr Ill The West Bengal Motor Vehicles Tax (Amendment) Act, 2020. (Sections 2, 3.) Amendment of . section 2 of West 2. In sub-section (1) of section 2 of the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1979 Ben. Act IX of (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), after clause (2a), the following clause shall 1979, be inserted:— *(3a) “Bike Taxi” means any motor cycle registered as contract carriage and covered by a permit issued under sub-section (1) of section 74 of the Motor 59 of 1988. Vehicles Act, 1988 and includes any motor cycle used commercially for delivering goods or supplies;’. cae 3. In the Schedule to the principal Act, under the heading “DESCRIPTION OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND RATE OF ANNUAL TAX”, under the sub-heading “B. Vehicles for carrying passengers plying for hire or reward:”,— (i) in item No. (3), after the words “any contract carriage permit issued by the authority”, the words “except Bike Taxi” shail be inserted, (ii) after item No. (3), the following item and entries relating thereto shall be inserted: — “(4) Bike Taxi— 1.2 per centum of the value of vehicle or Rs. 780, whichever is higher.”.
