All Settlement/Assistant Settlement Officers, Consolidation, Uttar Pradesh. Revenue Section-8 Lucknow Dated July 7, 2001 Subject: Revised Government Order for reservation of land for public purposes under consolidation process and after consolidation. Sir, In continuation of the above mentioned Government Order No. 1726/1-8/2001-9/2/2001-598 dated 1.6.2001, I am directed to say that under Section 8 (a) of the Uttar Pradesh Consolidation of Holdings Act and Rule 24A (2) of the Consolidation of Holdings Rules, there is a provision for reservation of land for public purposes in the consolidation process. 2. By the time the consolidation process is completed 20-30 years later, land for public use is often depleted. Therefore, there is a pressing need to leave sufficient land for public use and village development. Along with reserving land for the above public purposes, it is essential to allocate land for multipurpose purposes such as marriage halls, playgrounds, parks, etc. in every village. Therefore, in the future, the consolidation process will mandate that one acre of land near the Scheduled Caste population in every village and one acre of land near other general caste neighbourhoods be reserved for the above-mentioned multipurpose purposes. 3. Along with the above, I am also directed to say that in those villages where the consolidation process has been completed, 1/2 or one acre of land from the available land of Gram Samaj/Ceiling will be identified and reserved by the Land Management Committee near the localities of Scheduled Castes/Tribes for the fulfilment of the above mentioned multi-purpose works, such as Baraatbar, playground, park etc. If the Land Management Committee does not identify the land for the above mentioned multi-purpose purposes and reserve it separately near the population of Scheduled Castes/Tribes and General Castes, then the Sub-District Magistrate will be responsible for reserving the land and the land will be reserved by him. 4. It is further directed that the land reserved for the above purposes shall be used only for those purposes for which the land has been earmarked and reserved. This land will be managed by the social institutions of the same category in that village after the approval of the Land Management Committee or the Sub-District Magistrate. 5. Please ensure strict compliance of the above instructions. Yours sincerely, Chandrapal Principal Secretary Office of the Consolidation Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.
