J U D G M E N T
The petitioners, who are registered owners of Autorickshaws bearing Registration Nos.KL-08/BB-7199 and KL-08/AP-9856 covered by Exts.P1 and P1(A) certificates of registration and Exts.P2 and P2(A) contract carriage permits, are before this Court in this writ petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeking a declaration that the 1st respondent should not insist separate town permit numbers for autorickshaws owned by the petitioners, which are having valid permits issued by the Regional Transport Officer. The petitioner has also sought for a writ of mandamus commanding the 1st respondent to allow them to ply their autorickshaws on the strength of Exts.P2 and P2(A) permits.

In such circumstances, without going into the merits of the case, this writ petition is disposed of by directing the petitioners to make applications before the 1st respondent Assistant Commissioner of Police for issuing stickers for their autorickshaws, which are permitted to be plied within the city. On receipt of such applications, the said respondent shall consider the same and pass appropriate orders thereon, strictly in accordance with law, with notice to the petitioners and affording them an opportunity of being heard.

Necessary orders in this regard shall be passed, as expeditiously as possible, at any rate, within a period of two weeks from the date of receipt of a certified copy of this judgment.
