This is a case, wherein counterfeit Indian currency

¶30

notes as well as counterfeit currency notes of Dirhams are involved. As far as Indian currency notes are concerned, certificate of examination has been obtained. At the same time, at that particular time, there was no mechanism was available here for the examination of fake foreign currency notes. When counterfeiting has been alleged with regard to Dirhams, a certificate of examination of the said counterfeit Dirhams has to be obtained.

The learned Public Prosecutor, before the court below, had approached the court below through Annexure-III Crl.M.P.No.1512/2012, for getting the counterfeit Dirhams forwarded to the Interpol through the CBI. So far the same had not been forwarded.

Presently, the learned Public Prosecutor submits

that a special unit has been established at the Forensic Science Laboratory, Thiruvananthapuram, as per order No.D6-3366/CR/08 dated 31.08.2009, for the examination of foreign currency. It has been reported that Specimen Standards for such examination can be obtained from agencies like UAE Exchange, Western Union Money Transfer etc. and the special unit can conduct such an examination by obtaining specimen standards from the above agencies.

In the result, this Crl.M.C. is disposed of by directing the court below to forward the counterfeit Dirhams involved in the case to the special unit for the examination of the foreign currency notes at the Forensic Science Laboratory. Till obtaining the report, the proceedings in the case before the court below shall stand stayed.
