The petitioner is the Secretary of Karumkulam Scheduled Caste Service Co-Operative Society Ltd. The election to the managing committee of the Society is scheduled to take place on 18.8.2013.

The petitioner has filed this writ petition with the apprehension that, as in the past years, this year also, the election is likely to be marred by violence on the instigation of the political parties. It is therefore that she is seeking direction to respondents 1 to 3 to provide adequate police protection to the Society in order to enable the completion of a free and fair election.

In view of the past instances which have been narrated in

the writ petition, we are not prepared to think that the petitioner's apprehension is totally misplaced.

In such circumstances, we dispose of this writ petition

directing that respondents 1 to 3 will ensure that the law and order is

maintained on the date of election, i.e., 18.8.2013.
