The petitioners have approached this Court seeking the following reliefs:

i) issue a writ of mandamus or any other appropriate order or direction commanding the respondents 1 to 5 to provide adequate and meaningful police protection for the life of the petitioners.

Briefly put, the case of the petitioners is as follows:

The 1^st petitioner is a doctor by profession. Originally,

she belongs to Baroda and she started residing in Silvassa, a Union Territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli. She fell in love with the second petitioner who was also working in the same hospital. The 7^th respondent, who is a divorcee, has started to harass the 1^st petitioner with eagles eye. The 1^st petitioner decided to get married with the 2^nd petitioner. The 7^th respondent, who is highly influential, is using all his influence to finish the petitioners. The petitioners decided to marry and live together.

They belong to Hindu community. Their marriage was solemnised according to Hindu religious rites and since then they are living together. Ext.P1 is the marriage certificate and Ext.P2 is the copy of the ration card. There is perpetual threat from respondents 6 and 7. The 6^th respondent is the father of the 1^st petitioner. Because of threat, the 1^st petitioner filed Exts.P3 and P4 and on finding the threat continuing the petitioners are before us.

We had passed an interim order. Though served, there is no appearance for respondents 6 and 7. In such circumstances, we dispose of the writ petition by directing that as and when the petitioners brings to the notice of the 2^nd respondent, Deputy Superintendent of Police any threat from respondents 6 and 7, the 2^nd respondent shall look into it and provide protection to the life of the petitioners as against respondents 6 and 7, as and when necessary.
