The petitioner has filed the present petition as a public interest litigation, inter alia, praying as under:

"1. Issue appropriate writ/direction/order to the Respondents No.1, 2 and 3 to take appropriate and necessary action to constitute a Bio-diversity Management Committee's (BMCs) at every local body in the State of Karnataka.

Issue appropriate writ/direction/order to the Respondent No.4 to take appropriate and necessary action immediately to constitute a Bio-diversity Management Committee's (BMCs) at every Grama Panchayat/Taluk/District level in Tumkur District."

The respondent has filed statement of objections, inter alia, stating that Biodiversity Management Committees have been formed at all levels. Further directions have also been issued for constituting Biodiversity Management Committees, where the term of the Committees had been expired.
