The petitioner is before this Court calling in question the proceedings in Crime No.19/2023 registered for the offences punishable under Sections 376, 376(n), 417, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (hereinafter referred to as ‘the IPC’, for short).

Though the offence punishable was Section 376

¶25

of IPC, the entire complaint was in narration of the promise of marriage of the petitioner to the victim and its breach. The issue stood covered by plethora of judgments rendered by the Apex Court particularly of the judgment in the case of Shambhu Kharwar v. State of Uttar Pradesh and others reported in 2022 SCC Online SC 1032.

The parties had sought to settle the dispute amongst themselves by referring the matter to the Mediation Centre, High Court of Karnataka, Dharwad Bench, Dharwad.

Before the Mediation Centre, the parties have

settled the dispute and the report of such settlement is also placed before this Court.
