Anticipatory bail refused — Gauhati High Court (Pranjal Das, J.), Order dated 05.02.2026, AB No. 2591/2025: Rajul Ali & 3 Ors. v. State of Assam (through Rangia P.S., represented by the Public Prosecutor). Application under S.482, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 by four named accused seeking pre-arrest bail in Rangia P.S. Case No. 220/2025 (registered under Ss.126(1), 115(2), 329(a) and 118(2), BNS 2023) stands REJECTED. FIR lodged 24.09.2025 by Ramjan Ali alleged that on 20.09.2025 accused no. 1 Rajul Ali, in a drunken state, assaulted the informant and his brother, and that all four accused then attacked the family armed with dao, axes and knives, assaulting his parents, brothers and sister-in-law; Rajul Ali allegedly struck his mother on the head with a knife causing profuse bleeding. Medical Report annexed to the Case Diary indicated grievous injuries caused by blunt trauma to victim Sahida Begum (scalp abrasions 10 x 2 cm and 5 x 2 cm; CT scan and x-rays directed; patient examined 20.09.2025 at 11:00 PM); a photograph in the Case Diary showed the purported victim with a bandaged head and blood-soaked clothes. The victim's statement supported the assault allegations; most witnesses implicated the accused; all petitioners are named in the FIR. Petitioners, on interim bail, had appeared before the I.O. and recorded their statements. The I.O. objected to bail, citing the necessity of custodial interrogation with the investigation at a crucial stage. Holding that these contentions could not be brushed aside, the Court found it not an appropriate case to grant anticipatory bail at this stage; the AB stands rejected and the Case Diary is directed to be sent back.
