This suit was instituted on behalf of the Plaintiffs seeking permanent injunction restraining Defendants No. 1-36 from infringing Plaintiffs’ exclusive broadcasting and reproduction rights, along with other reliefs, in respect of the then upcoming boxing matches – Jake Paul v Chavez Jr. and all featured undercard bouts taking place in California, U.S.A. By ex parte ad interim order dated 29.05.2025, Court restrained Defendants No. 1-30 and any other person acting on their behalf from communicating, hosting, screening, dissemination or making available for viewing/downloading, without authorization, any part of the events, which are subject matter of this suit, on any electronic or digital platform, in any manner whatsoever. Defendants No. 31-34 i.e., were directed to lock and suspend the given domain names and furnish KYC and other details of Defendants No. 1-30.

Defendants No. 35-43 i.e., ISPs/TSPs were directed to block websites of Defendants No. 1-30 and Defendants No. 44 and 45 were directed to issue necessary directions to all ISPs/TSPs to block/remove access to these websites.

Further, Court granted liberty to the Plaintiffs to communicate details of any further websites, which were discovered during the currency of the event, to Defendants No. 44 (Dot) and 45 (MeitY) for issuance of blocking orders also simultaneously to ISPs/DNRs for blocking the websites so as to ensure that the websites are blocked on real time basis. Direction was issued to the ISPs to take steps to immediately block the rogue websites in question, on receipt of intimation from the Plaintiffs and similar directions were issued to DoT and MeitY to issue necessary blocking orders.

Learned counsel for the Plaintiffs submits that concerned Defendants have complied with the directions passed by the Court and infringing websites have been blocked and/or domain names have been locked/suspended.

Present suit was filed inter alia for permanent injunction against various rogue websites engaged in unauthorized broadcasting, streaming, hosting and communicating to the public, Plaintiffs’ exclusive broadcast content in relation to then upcoming boxing event scheduled on 28.06.2025. Since the event is over and respective Defendants have admittedly complied with the directions passed by the Court in respect of infringing rogue websites, the suit is rendered infructuous and is accordingly disposed of with pending application.
