1. Heard learned counsel for the petitioner, learned Standing Counsel for the State-respondents and Sri Rajesh Tripathi, learned counsel for the respondent nos. 1 and 2.

1. By means of this petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution, petitioner has prayed for a direction to the Regional Passport Officer to issue passport, which would be valid for a period of ten years as per the period prescribed under The Passports Act, 1967.

1. Per contra, it is argued by the learned counsel for respondents nos. 1 & 2 that a passport for a period of one year can be issued as the applicant is involved in a criminal case and has obtained No Objection Certificate from the Criminal Law Court concerned to travel abroad and to possess a valid passport, in view of the notification issued by the Ministry of External Affairs as well as the Home Ministry.
