The petitioner has filed the instant petition praying for a mandamus directing the respondent no. 3 to renew the passport of the petitioner by taking decision expeditiously.
The petitioner has applied for renewal of the passport. The application filed in this behalf is annexure 2 to the writ petition. According to the status tracker, the status of the application is as follows :-
"Police Verification Report is not clear and application is under review at Regional Passport Office."
Learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that no final decision has been taken on the renewal application so far.
Notice of the instant petition was served upon learned Additional Solicitor General but there is no response on behalf of the Union of India and the Regional Passport Office arrayed as respondents 1 and 3.
We are of the opinion that keeping the instant petition pending will not serve any purpose as the application has to be disposed of by the concerned respondent by taking decision one way or the other.
It is accordingly directed that the respondent no. 3 shall consider and dispose of the pending renewal application in accordance with law expeditiously preferably within eight weeks. It shall be open to the petitioner to file a true attested copy of the instant order before respondents 4 and 5 who shall ensure that police report, if yet not submitted, shall be submitted forthwith so that the processing of the renewal application is not delayed any further.
